How do I know if I need therapy?

Only you can decide whether you want to try psychotherapy, but if you are struggling to cope and are finding day-to-day life difficult, you may benefit from professional help. Just talking to someone confidentially who is not a friend or family member can make all the difference. Therapy provides space for you to explore your feelings and discuss any problems you are experiencing. This can help you develop better ways of coping, allowing you to move forward and get the most out of life.

What will starting therapy be like?

Staring therapy for the first time can feel daunting. I endeavour to create a safe, non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable openly expressing your feelings and emotions. Through this process, you will develop deeper insights and self-awareness. This clarity brings wisdom enabling you to live more fully, authentically, and with a deeper purpose and sense of self. I will support you through this process, however challenging it may be for you.

What type of therapy do you practice?

I work in an integrative and relational way. I place the client and the client’s concerns at the centre of my practice, with a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. I draw from a range of approaches that I trained in at the doctoral level, allowing me to tailor my approach to suit your unique needs.

Who do you work with?

I work with children aged 8+ years old, adolescents, adults, couples, and parents.

How long does therapy take?

Therapy is tailored specifically to your needs. Most clients start with a minimum of six to twelve sessions. We tend to review your progress after the initial six sessions to see how you are benefiting.

How would we work together?

I offer weekly, short-term and long-term therapy depending on your needs, preferences, and goals. We regularly review this and adjust as required. Sessions can take place in-person or online. Online therapy takes place via the secure platform Zoom. You will be sent a link one day prior to your session. Please make sure that you are in a private and quiet space where you will not be disturbed. Each session lasts 50 minutes and usually takes place at the same time and day each week. The Initial assessment appointment is longer and lasts 75 minutes.

Do you offer an initial call?

Yes, I offer an initial 20-minute call that is not charged. This can take place via telephone or video. This is an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have, and for me to hear what has brought you to therapy now.

What happens during the first session?

The first session will be an initial assessment. I will ask you to complete an information form, and we will discuss the therapy contract, including confidentiality. We will explore in more detail what has brought you to therapy now, your current situation, relevant past and present experiences, and what your goals are. We will discuss what you hope to gain from therapy and how we might work together. After the session, you don’t have to commit to therapy. If it doesn’t feel right, you are free to reflect and take your time before deciding.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, sessions are confidential, as well as any out-of-session correspondence. I will not pass on any information about you outside therapy services unless:

  • I consider that you or others are at risk of serious harm. I will always endeavour to inform you of this beforehand.
  • I am required by law to do so.
  • You have given me permission or requested that I share information.

In addition, as a practising psychologist, I am required by my professional body (the BPS) to engage in supervision where I may discuss aspects of our work. This is bound by confidentiality, and you would be anonymous.
